Welcome to the Northstar Hackathon™. By participating in our event, registering, or using our services, you agree to these Terms & Conditions. Please read them carefully.

1. Event Overview

The Northstar Hackathon™ is the official hackathon of Basecamp Tech Fest™, organized in partnership with CodeWorks®. The event focuses on building technology solutions that serve community needs.

2. Eligibility

Participation is open to:

  • Developers, designers, students, and technology enthusiasts

  • Individuals 18 years or older (minors require parental consent)

  • Teams of 1-5 members

  • Both local and remote participants (specific arrangements to be announced)

3. Registration & Fees

We may share your information with:

  • Registration is required for participation

  • Early access registration is free

  • Event fees (if any) will be clearly communicated before final registration

  • Registration may be limited by venue capacity

  • We reserve the right to refuse registration to anyone

4. Code of Conduct

All participants must:

  • Treat all attendees, organizers, sponsors, and partners with respect

  • Follow all venue rules and local laws

  • Refrain from harassment, discrimination, or disruptive behavior

  • Work collaboratively and support the community-focused mission

  • Respect intellectual property and privacy of others

Violation of the code of conduct may result in immediate removal from the event.

5. Intellectual Property & Project Ownership

  • Your Projects: You retain ownership of any code, designs, or ideas you create

  • Pre-existing IP: You must have rights to use any pre-existing code or materials

  • Open Source Encouraged: We encourage (but don't require) open-source projects

  • Documentation: We may document and photograph projects for promotional purposes

  • Third-party Libraries: Ensure proper licensing for any libraries or frameworks used

6. Prizes & Awards

  • Prize details and amounts will be announced before the event

  • Prizes are awarded based on judging criteria focused on community impact

  • Prize winners may be required to provide tax information

  • Prizes are non-transferable and have no cash value unless specified

  • Judges' decisions are final

Important: Prize winners may be asked to present their solutions to sponsors or community organizations for potential implementation or further development opportunities.

7. Liability & Risk

By participating, you acknowledge that:

  • Participation is at your own risk

  • We are not liable for any loss, damage, or injury during the event

  • You are responsible for your own equipment and belongings

  • We recommend having your own insurance coverage

8. Photography & Media

By attending, you consent to:

  • Photography and videography during the event

  • Use of your likeness in promotional materials

  • Sharing of event content on social media and websites

  • Documentation of projects for promotional purposes

9. Event Changes & Cancellation

  • We reserve the right to modify event details, schedule, or format

  • In case of cancellation, we will provide reasonable notice

  • Refund policies will be clearly communicated with paid registrations

  • Force majeure events (natural disasters, etc.) may affect the event

10. Partner & Sponsor Interactions

  • Sponsors and partners may interact with participants for networking and recruitment

  • Your contact information may be shared with partners as outlined in our Privacy Policy

  • Any agreements with sponsors/partners are between you and them directly

11. Technology & Platform

  • Participants are responsible for their own devices and internet connectivity

  • We will provide reasonable technical support but cannot guarantee system availability

  • Backup your work regularly - we are not responsible for data loss

12. Prohibited Activities

The following are strictly prohibited:

  • Creating malicious software, hacking tools, or illegal content

  • Violating any applicable laws or regulations

  • Plagiarism or submitting non-original work

  • Disrupting event activities or other participants

  • Misrepresenting yourself or your qualifications

13. Termination

We reserve the right to:

  • Remove participants who violate these terms

  • Disqualify projects that don't meet guidelines

  • Cancel or modify the event if necessary

14. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Idaho, USA. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of Idaho.

15. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms at any time. Continued participation after changes constitutes acceptance of new terms. We will notify participants of material changes.
